Warren James Moore

My great great grandfather - WARREN JAMES MOORE (born August 1, 1841) - was one of three brothers raised in an orphanage somewhere in Connecticut; when he was in his teens his father came to the orphanage and took his two brothers leaving Warren alone at the orphanage - he never saw his father or brothers again!

"I wanted him (Gene) to be broadminded
enough to understand every church. . .
"

"Hi Gene . . . I'm about 9 months older than you and you lived with me and my family in Gurnet Point & West Newton during WW II. I was told you were my foster brother but you disappeared and I never knew why. . . I've attached some photos of you and me at the Gurnet (Garnet Point, Plymouth, Mass)"

LETTER TO MY GRANDCHILD

Edited by Liv Ullmann
Hardcover: 192 pages
Publisher: Atlantic Monthly Press
ISBN-10: 0871137283

Collected here are over thirty original letters especially written for this book by some of the world's most prominent figures to their grandchildren. Intimate in tone, the letters reflect on the writers' own lives and acknowledge the challenges they foresee for another generation. Contributors include Harry Belafonte, Leonard Cohen, Walter Cronkite, Nadine Gordimer, Tenzin Gyatso (His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama), Doris Lessing, Nelson Mandela, Liv Ullmann, Lech Walesa, Elie Wiesel and many others. . .

"There are opportunities waiting for you, my grandson. Voices out there you must listen to. Human beings out there in the world who will never vote for you or applaud you or honor you. Who will simply need you. You will finally be described by how you reacted to these needs. The finished portrait of yourself-the one you can never change, how-ever beautifully ornamented the frame-will encompass the care and the vision you enacted on behalf of others and how you, through their destinies, learned to recognize yourself. My sweet grandson: * May you in life give room to your feelings-risk being hurt-and learn about love."
